A special welcome to everyone visiting from SITS where the Secret to Success is Support! Today I have the tremendous opportunity to be a “How To” Featured Blogger on SITS. What makes SITS great is that not only do we all agree to read each others blogs (one a day) but we ALSO agree to leave a comment.
Comments have been compared to many things in the blogosphere, so just to bring my yoga readers up to speed – in yoga terms – comments are like Shivasana (the relaxation pose) to a blogger. They feel so good after a lot of hard work!
My SITS Feature Post: How To Relax and Enjoy the Holidays is wrapped up below. For new SITS readers – you are personally invited to keep reading the other links on this page. Young Yoga Masters is all about Kids Yoga, about Training Teachers and about spreading tools to help kids be healthy and happy. I’m a niche blogger so I write almost exclusively about kids/health/yoga/and related topics. I post about once a week.
If you are a parent, a teacher, a yoga convert, or just yoga curious and want useful tools for the kids you love, add your name in the subscription box on the top right. Lets stay in touch. If you’re one of my regular readers, today is the day to try leaving some comment love. SITS girls know the secret to success is showing comment love support!
Now with the many holidays fast approaching here is the rest of the Feature Blog Post:
How To Relax and Enjoy the Holidays
A celebration is supposed to be a happy day, the kind that makes great memories. Everyone needs holidays to balance out the toil! But what about the obstacles that take a perfectly good holiday and make it feel like work? With a few simple yogi fixes, you can turn these modern problems around and ensure everyone has a fun time.
Do you make these holiday mistakes?
- Mistake: Carrying a Heavy Stress Load: staying up late, getting up early, texting, blogging, tweeting, e-mailing, then running around all day can wear a person down! A little stress can be motivating but too much stress is like too much salt– it ruins the meal. The Sun Salutation, a flowing yoga series, helps combat the bad effects of stress.Watch this video to see Yoga Man defeat The Stressor using yoga! Exercise is a proven antidote to the toll stress takes on your body. Even just ten minutes of Sun Salutations at night can help you wind down. When done in the morning the Sun Salutation can help you get moving. This is really helpful to reduce the health risks your body bears when it is in stress mode.
- Mistake: Reaching for the Junk Food: Eating in moderation just doesn’t go with certain holidays like Halloween where candies abound. Of course the best thing to do is to not eat junk. But if you end up reaching for the candies a little more than you ought, here’s something the yogis recommend: Rock Pose/Vajrasana. To sit in Rock pose, first kneel and then lower down so you are sitting on your heels. Do it watching TV or sorting Halloween candy, just do it as often as you can. It’s recommended by the yogis to aid in digestion and help with elimination.
These yoga fixes have been practiced for ages and can help you fix mistakes and make any holiday a little healthier and happier!
Thanks to everyone for visiting Young Yoga Masters today. And remember, whenever you see SITS – leave a comment!
Yours truly,
Aruna Kathy Humphrys

How wonderful that you are the featured blogger today. Ever since I have moved and started a new job, my yoga practice has suffered a bit. A lot actually. This is just what I need to get back into the swing of things.
I hope your SITS Day was a wonderful one.

Aruna, congratulations on your SITS day! What a wonderful, refreshing and timely change of pace! I’d definitely put myself in the ‘yoga curious” category and really need to get myself and my girls into some classes. It seems like we’re always so busy, no matter how much I trim from our schedules, and that the stress level is always very high. I need to get off this hamster wheel and am sure that yoga would be a healthy way deal with some of the issues we’re facing. I’m so glad to have found you through SITS!
Tara says
Happy SITS Day! Excited to check out more of your site.

Congrats on your SITS day 🙂
I’ve been practicing yoga for about 5 years and can honestly say that it has been key in helping me reduce my stress levels and finding my center. For a person who literally made herself physically ill, it’s a huge accomplishment! I’m so glad to see that you are teaching yoga to kids – that’s fabulous!
Fire Wife Katie says
Great advice!! I’m really going to focus on taking it easy and finding a way to release all of that tension this year.

Happy SITS Day! What a great blog you have here. I’m your newest follower. I’d love to learn how to stop myself from worrying and stressing out especially as I watch my 16 month old take a bite out of her apple, chew it up and spit it out.

Stopping by from SITS to look around. I love the idea of yoga for kids. It’s one of those things I’ve been meaning to try myself, but never gotten around to. Enjoy your SITS day.

Stopping on over from SITS. BIG yoga fan here. I’d love to get my almost 4 year old son involved in it and would love to know what age you think it appropriate to start them. I’ve showed him some poses but his energy level doesn’t quite seem “calm” enough for yoga 🙂

Congrats on your day!! So exciting and fun. I am really excited to find your site…looks like some cool stuff even us old fogies can use. I like the one for sorting candy (can’t remember what it’s called…ha!) so I’ll have to give that a try. Will explore some more.

Happy SITS day! I am definitely prone to stress and worrying. I am going to have to try some of the things I have read here. I was particularly impressed with the post about giving your child a compliment as you brush her hair. I love the idea of taking something that we do daily and making it into something positive that can be looked forward to. I think so much of life is missed or not enjoyed just by rushing and stressing.
Sharada says
Happy SITS day.
THis is a great blog. I love doing Yoga. I have started to teach my 5 year old. Believe it or not what made him want to learn was Kung Fu Panda. Hope you have a wonderful day…

This is fabulous. My 4 year old has Autism and I had heard yoga would be perfect for him. So I got a few DVD’s from the library and him and I have been doing it 3 times a week. We are learning together. He loves it and can’t wait to show everyone his poses. I catch him doing some poses and balancing from time to time. He remembers them long after we’ve done a workout.
I love the time him and I spend together doing yoga. He can relax, but still use energy. He finds his calm and doesn’t stim (do repetitive actions like flapping his arms).
Thank you for sharing this amazing gift with us! I can’t wait to read more and improve me and my son’s workouts!

Happy SITS day!! I took Yoga as my college Phy/Health requirement and was surprised that I liked it. Keep up the good work.

well who knew that ‘worry’ came from the word ‘strangle’. That resonates so much in that I can feel strangled with my own worries from time to time. I know that when I do yoga (sporadically) I feel SO much better so am going to be looking for tips to get over the procrastination and just do it. Happy SITS day!

I love the idea of kids yoga! I have found many benefits and feel great when I practice yoga, but other than baby and me yoga I have not thought much about toddlers and older children practicing here. I think it’s a wonderful! Especially with all the stresses kids face today.

Congrats on you SITS day! Love the post from the 16-year-old on his experience – found out he’s not as flexible as a bunch of 40 year olds. Gotta love that revelation. It’s great that you are trying to spread the idea of relaxation – we could all use more of that!

I was thrilled to learn that my girls’ preschool is teaching them yoga. Just the basics but they already love it and I hope it serves as a first step towards regular exercise. I love that you are teaching yoga to youngsters.

Great post! I love yoga and it can especially be helpful during the hustle and bustle of the holiday season. It gets so difficult to carve out time for ourselves during those few months but it is so important! Happy SITS day!

Your points are right on! In November, I usually cook up extra meals and freeze them so we don’t get caught in the junk food trap during the Christmas busy-ness when I don’t always have time to cook.
