Kids Yoga Teacher Training and Certification

Free Printable – Holiday Yoga Coloring Activity Page

It’s the last week of classes before the holidays and we had our first real winter storm yesterday and our street looks like a beautiful Canadian winter holiday scene.

The down side is I also came down with a winter cold.  When you teach kids yoga and go from one classroom to another you come in contact with a lot of runny-nosed children.  In the preschool rooms its my custom to give a big hug to any children who come up at the end of class.  Last week during hugs a child sneezed right onto my face including my mouth.  I wanted to drink a gallon of hand sanitizer!

Three days later I was spending the day in bed drinking ginger tea and resting for my last week of classes. I made it to my last classes only a little under the weather this week.   I have an early week of holidays this week to rest up some more and work on a new big project I talk more about below.

How has your holiday season been going?

In past years, it’s been a tradition here at Young Yoga Masters to do a yoga holiday gift guide. But with getting sick and so much happening this year, including an exciting re-design of our Kids Yoga teacher training, I didn’t get around to creating the gift guide.

When you’re a yogi there are numerous gifts always available for the giving and the best gifts are not physical ones, they’re the emotional treasures.  So here are a few yogic quotes that remind us of the gift of yoga to hold in our hearts during the holidays (and beyond)!

Maitreya (friendliness)

maitry-adisu balani

One gains emotional strength by perfecting friendliness

– Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, Part III, Sutra 24

Karuna (compassion)

“She remembered a word he’d often used, karuna-one of the Buddha’s words, Pali for compassion, for the immanence of all living things in each other, for the attraction of life for its likeness. A time will come, he had said to the girls, when you too will discover what this word karuna means, and from that moment on, your lives will never again be the same.”

– Amitav Ghosh, The Glass Palace

Sukha (happiness)

santosat anuttamah sukhalabhah

Supreme happiness comes from practicing contentment

– Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, Part II, Sutra 42

Shanti (peace)

Om Sarveshaam Svastir-Bhavatu
Sarveshaam Shaantir-Bhavatu
Sarveshaam Purnnam-Bhavatu
Sarveshaam Manggalam-Bhavatu
Om Shaantih Shaantih Shaantih

May all have well-being,
May all have peace,
May all have fulfilment,
May all have prosperity,
Om Peace, Peace, Peace.

– Shanti Mantra

When you have friendliness, compassion, happiness and peace you have the most meaningful of gifts.

Free Colouring Page – The True Gifts of the Holidays

In that spirit, I’ve created a free colouring page for you to share yoga and discuss the real meaning of Christmas.

Kids Yoga Christmas Holiday Printable Colouring Page

Christmas Holiday Colouring Page

It’s a yoga inspired holiday colouring page. The yoga pose is Forward Bend from the Frog Yoga Alphabet Training with holiday themed decorations around it. The banner hanging on the wall is empty so kids can write a message they would like to think about during the holidays. You can also do a page for yourself and write your own word in the banner.  It can spark a lovely discussion of about the real gifts of the holidays.

You can download the free printable holiday yoga colouring page for free by clicking this link.

An Ending and a New Beginning for our Kids Yoga Teacher Certification

As I mentioned at the beginning of this post, I’ve been busy on a big project, its my first major redesign of our kids yoga teacher training.

Janet Williams who has been my fellow trainer since 2012, is moving onto a new position that connects with her passion for the environment.  She will no longer be holding in person training and is designing online training. This means the two modules Janet designed will no longer be a part of the Young Yoga Masters 95 hour teacher training.

This has become an opportunity to put everything on the table and give it an update for 2018.  I’ve got lots of vision boards, journalling, and post it notes galore all over the place.  My goals is to take the necessary time to reflect on Kids Yoga as we move into 2018 and what people need to succeed as a yoga teacher for children.  Stay tuned in the new year for the details!

Let me finish my rambling today, giving Janet the last word from this interaction we shared when Janet announced the news publicly on Facebook. It eloquently expresses my wishes for you this year too:

Aruna Kathy Humphrys Kids Yoga Teacher Trainer

Janet, I wish you the absolute best in future endeavors. Five years ago we started out with a mission to spread the joy and the benefits of yoga to kids. I feel we’ve achieved our objective in those five years as we’ve taught hundreds of teachers who have gone on to bring yoga to kids across the world. All this certainly would not have been possible without your enthusiasm and love of kids and of yoga. I want to personally thank you for being so dedicated to our joint vision. I know you have many projects you are passionate about and I have no doubt you will pour your heart into this next phase of your business by developing it into a unique online offering at http://childrensyogabooks.com/. I am grateful we were able to journey together in yoga training these past few years. Thanks!

Thank you for your beautiful and kind words Kathy Aruna Santokh Humphrys It is amazing what we have accomplished and nice to feel that in working together we have positively impacted the world and future generations. I learned the beautiful “Long Time Sun” song from you, when I first met you while attending your adult lunch time Kundalini classes at Trinity Church, back in 1998-99, when I was working on a Y2K project for Bell Canada.

In 2008 when I birthed my “What I See, I Can Be” book, I acknowledged in the book the Kundalini classes I had taken, but was so disappointed that I couldn’t remember your name. And it was the “Long Time Sun” song that allowed me to realize who you were when we reconnected again in 2009 after being asked to speak on the same Kids Yoga Panel.

Blessings to you, as you continue to guide students in the joys of teaching Kids Yoga and as you taught me:

“May the long time sun shine upon you

All love surround you

And the pure light within you

Guide your way on.”
